So I decided to buy into the fad and get one of them fidget spinner thingamajigs. Feeling rich, I went for one with a nicer aluminium body (supposedly), and the online store I bought it from threw in the regular one. I also purposely went for what is a ‘limited edition’ colouration, different from the usual black or gold or whatever.
It’s definitely occupied my hands more than my fidget cube, which is falling apart a little too quickly for my tastes. This particular one I got isn’t exactly a marvel of manufacturing, since one of the black rings kept falling out, and the ball bearings can get caught and prevent a smooth spinning experience.
There’s a shallow learning curve for spinning it at a good clip using just one hand, and I’ve taken it apart more times than I can remember to try fruitlessly to get the ball bearings to stop catching. Otherwise, nothing much to report, really. Can’t see it being any useful for ADHD patients no matter the marketing, but for someone with fidgety fingers like me, it’s pretty nice.
Awaiting the next fad.
Usually I like to write private reflections that go into a lot of detail, including about the people that I’ve had the fortune (or misfortune) to meet. But, for a change, I decided to do my reflections in a more public setting, to maybe better distill what I’ve experienced and learnt throughout four years of higher education.
I recall distantly having written several political posts at the start of this blog, but then that promptly gave way to reviews of movies, TV shows and anime. I feel like it’s time to go back to talking and ranting about politics just a little, before I turn into someone completely divested from the world around me.
This ain’t Vol. 1, but it’s still a heck of a lot of fun!
Spoilers, as always. This warning may be a bit more pertinent, given that Guardians hasn’t been released in a lot of places yet.
You know, I don’t even know why I bothered with 3rei!! given how disappointed I was with 2wei! Herz. But this is a decent return to form for the Prisma Illya franchise, even if I was kinda disappointed it didn’t take the risks I had hoped a series with the name Fate in it would take.
As usual, spoilers are ahead.
Hands down the BEST trailer I’ve watched this year.
I thought the Thor: Ragnarok trailer was great for its fun and hip vibe, and the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer was great to watch like a mini-film (and the hype over the best on-screen Spider-Man yet; sorry Tobey Maguire!).
But THIS. This is what a trailer should be. Teasing the audience with every scene. Showing us glimpses of the epic saga that’s about to unfold. The visuals are stunning. The lines are well chosen. THE HYPE TRAIN IS CHARGING THROUGH TOWN LIKE A DREAM SEQUENCE IN COBB’S BRAIN, PEOPLE.
I hope they do the ‘start with a panting protagonist’ thing only up to Episode IX though. We had Finn do that for Episode VII, and now Rey for Episode VIII. Maybe just do Poe in Episode IX and that’s it. Don’t need too much of that.
This looks like it’s going to be SO MUCH FUN. Lots of Guardians vibes here, what with the music and the Dave Bautista/Drax humour when Thor meets Hulk. Cate Blanchett might actually make an epic Marvel villain for once, but I’m not holding my breath on that one. I spot Loki too, but he doesn’t seem to be the main villain this time, so we’ll see how that plays out.
The colours are pretty vibrant here (including for the film title), which further emphasises the more cheerful tone the movie seems to be headed towards. Given that the press so far seems to hint at some sort of ‘buddy road trip’ film, I’m totally expecting the trailer to only be showing the early parts of the film, and Thor is going to escape with Hulk and try to find their way back home.
To an average consumer like me, a SATA SSD is more than enough speed. But I only got 250GB of SSD storage, and my games were still running off HDDs. The allure of an upgrade to an NVMe drive was too great.
But instead of going with Samsung for my storage needs again, I went with Plextor instead.
I haven’t been really watching movies beyond Marvel properties lately, but with some time that I decided not to spend on actual work, I decided to clear a little of my movie backlog.
Snowpiercer proved a good decision.
So this is actually less of an impulse buy than usual.
