Still the only horror film I’ll ever recommend to anyone. Maybe Jurassic Park too, just for that velociraptor scene. Although those velociraptors are scientifically inaccurate…
I must really be awful to watch movies with.
Anyway, I’m not a big horror fan, because I don’t care for the adrenaline rushes of jump scares and the plot of most horror movies are severely lacking.
But Alien had plot, it had real tension, it had an awesome hero who wasn’t totally stupid (like wholly half of all horror movie characters who run into danger and split up despite common sense dictating otherwise), a really menacing villain, and the hero was female to boot. And this was years ago, when the sexism in Hollywood was even worse than it is now.
Of course, then I watched the rest of the Alien franchise, including the crossovers with Predator. I wish I could take back those hours.
Also, as an addendum, Prometheus made no sense whatsoever. Was hoping for an epic film with Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron, but it was a hot mess plot-wise. And then there’s the Prometheus school of running away.
