Me!Me!Me! – Music Video [NSFW]

WARNING: NUDITY GALORE.

I’m surprised it took me so long to discover this video.

At face value, this is another one of those crazy ecchi or hentai videos that Japan is so (in)famous for. But it’s so easy to get outraged over the nudity and the craziness, and lose sight of the meaning in the first place.

It’s really a video about internet addiction, specifically porn and games. I speculate that the pink-haired girl is his ex-girlfriend, who left him because he was struggling with said addictions and couldn’t devote himself to their relationship. He even fought against the addictions in the latter part of the video, but failed and was taken.

Some people may disagree, stating that no matter how important or deep the message behind the video is, the gratuitous use of nudity and the sheer insanity of the trippy video defeats its purpose. They get turned off (or on, in some cases…) by the video, unable to connect the dots hidden within.

I don’t get the hullabaloo over nudity in art. Surely the production value of Me!Me!Me! and the strong message behind it should leave a viewer appreciative? Hell, this will be far more effective at starting a conversation about addiction than statistics or reports. And frankly, the amount of plot in this short 6min video is more than a dozen mediocre Hollywood films put together. Are you saying that just because there’s nudity, it’s worse than any of the sex and/or violent scenes in big budget Hollywood movies that people have to pay to watch?

I guess it’s easier for me to divest myself from any preconceived disgust towards nudity when I’m so keenly interested in (script)writing and directorial activities. If there’s anything to take home from Me!Me!Me!, it’s that the deepest of meanings can be hidden in what appears to be the shallowest of vehicles. I’m impressed.
